Ayurveda considers everything in the universe, including human beings, to be made of five elementsAir, Water, Fire, Earth and Ether. Together these elements are known as the Pancha-mahabhutas. Each of these elements is associated with different bodily functions and personality traits. In the organic body these five elements are found as the three doshas (tridosha)vatha, pitta and kapha. Each of the doshas is a different combination of the five elements. An imbalance of the three doshas would result in both physical and mental ailments.
Ayurveda does not treat the disease but restores the harmony of the body so that the body itself can fight it. The treatments, diets and routines prescribed in Ayurveda are to balance the tridosha. Each individual would have a unique combination of these doshas, meaning there is no medicine or procedure suited to everyone. What might be harmful to one type of body constitution might be beneficial or even essential to another. If you are planning a sightseeing tour to Kerala, I highly recommend experiencing at least one week of Ayurveda treatments before you leave the state. These treatments will purify your mind, body, and soul.
In Yoga, the five elements or pancha bhutas earth, water, fire, air and space are seen as the basis of all creation, including the physical body.
Kerala is particularly known for a tantric form of yoga, which is a combination of Hatha yoga and a martial art form called Kalaripayattu. This practice helps boost your spiritual and physical powers.
If you are seeking inner peace and spirituality, you can stay in one of the many good yoga centres in Kerala and engage in some serious yoga and meditation amidst serene surroundings. The result will be a healthy and happy mind and body.
